Cost & Price of Uganda Gorilla Permits in 2024 – 2026

 UPDATED: A Uganda Gorilla permit is an official document issued by a government (where gorillas can be found) allowing the bearer to legally track and see mountain gorillas. Mountain Gorilla Permits in Uganda currently cost US$700 for foreign Non-residents, US$600 for residents, and UGX250,000 for all East African citizens. However, all the prices mentioned above are bound to change after 01st/July/2024.


All people planning to go on a gorilla trekking safari to Uganda must have a Gorilla Permit. Gorilla permits In Uganda are issued/sold by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) a government parastatal that oversees the management of all National Parks in Uganda. Gorilla Permits can be bought/purchased directly or through a recognized tour operator like Realm Africa Safaris™. If booked an all-inclusive Gorilla tour with us, we buy/purchase a gorilla permit for you at NO extra cost. However, if you want us to only buy the permit for you, we can still assist you get one for a service fee of $50 per gorilla permit.


What is the Cost of a Gorilla Permit In Uganda for 2024 – 2026


  • $700 – foreign Non-residents (Scheduled to increase to $800 per person after 01st/July/2024
  • $600 foreign Residents including ex-pats living and working in an East African Community Member state; Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya & Burundi (Scheduled to increase to $700 after 01st/July/2024). 
  • Ugx250,000 East African Citizens including those living and working in the diaspora (Scheduled to increase to UGX300,000 after 01st/July/2024).

Alternatively, persons who would like an exclusive gorilla trekking experience of only 4 persons tracking a group of wild mountain gorillas in the company of a team of researchers, should consider booking the gorilla habituation experience. Gorilla Habituation permits in Uganda cost $1,500 per person.

What is interesting about gorilla Habituation? Unlike the mountain gorilla trekking explained above, the gorilla habituation experience is an extraordinary experience that can only be done in Uganda ( Bwindi forest National park ) and nowhere else in the world. Mountain Gorilla Habituation is a full-day gorilla trekking experience that allows trekkers to spend up to four hours in the presence of a wild gorilla family – still undergoing habituation. Gorilla Habituation permits cost USD1,500 per person – Only a maximum of 04 tourists are allowed to track and spend four (04) hours with a wild mountain gorilla group in Bwindi Forest ( Rushaga or Nkuringo regions of Bwindi Forest).
