Which month is best for gorilla Trekking? While you can go gorilla trekking throughout the year, The best months for gorilla trekking are June to September and December to February. These months are also popularly known as the Peak or high season for tourism. 

No doubt, Gorilla trekking is a lifetime experience. Various Phrases like “I have seen them and now I can die”  have been used by those who got the chance to take a trip to see them in the wild. Now that you are also reading this blog means that you have surely made up your mind to break loose and go on a lifetime trip to see the gorillas. But the question on your mind is Which is the best month to go gorilla trekking? No Matter where you choose to go; Uganda or Rwanda, the seasons are pretty much the same.

Important to note is that gorilla trekking in Rwanda and Uganda can be done any time of the year. However, the drier season months are most preferred.


WEATHER: The Rainy seasons in Uganda and Rwanda


Both Uganda and Rwanda have two rainy seasons:

  • The long rains, which last from the end of February to the end of May
  • The short rains, which last from October to mid-December

Both the long and short rainy seasons are characterized by frequent showers which ideally don’t last a long period but the effect on the ground is significant. After the downpours, the ground often gets muddy and slippery.

To avoid the rains, plan your gorilla trek for sometime between June and September, or between mid-December and mid-February.
