Gorilla Habituation Experience in Uganda is a “hot Cake” Mountain gorilla product only happening in Uganda’s Bwindi impenetrable Forest National park and nowhere else in the world.

Gorilla Habituation is a full-day (04-hours) gorilla encounter that involves joining a small group (4 tourists) plus a team of gorilla researchers and rangers on a habituation journey through the lush impenetrable forest. While on a gorilla habituation experience in Uganda, you will be taking part in habituating wild mountain gorillas for future gorilla tourism. The habituation process usually lasts up to 4 years depending on how adaptive the gorilla get with daily visits from the researchers – taking part in gorilla habituation makes you part of the great history of this particular gorilla group you will visit.

After the 4 years or so elapse and it is fully confirmed that the gorillas are fully habituated, then the group is officially declared open to the public to trek. The habituated gorilla group is open for the traditional 01-hour viewing experience, not the 04-hour experience that the persons participating in gorilla habituation enjoy.

Where Can i do Gorilla Habituation Experience in Uganda?

Gorilla habituation in Uganda can only be done in Rushaga and Nkuringo area of Bwindi impenetrable forest park. In Rushaga the group currently undergoing habituation is called Bikyingi – named after the dominant Silverback. In the Nkuringo area, the group is called Bushaho – also named after the lead silverback.

How much is gorilla habituation experience in Uganda?

Gorilla habituation experience in Uganda costs US$1500 for a permit the other costs will depend on the type of transport – Road or Air) and the category of accommodation you choose to stay in (Budget – from US$80, Mid-range – From US$150, Upmarket from US$250).

Gorilla habituation permits allow you to participate in gorilla habituation. Because gorilla experience is limited to 4 tourists per group and there are only 2 groups available for habituation (0nly 8 permits available per day), gorilla habituation permits ought to be pre-booked in advance – the reason most tour operators will request you to pay full amounts for the permits at the time of booking your gorilla Habituation experience Safari.
