Gorilla Trekking In February is just as interesting as January given that the weather is relatively dry. Generally speaking, the weather in the southern part of Uganda where both Bwindi & Mgahinga Forests ( home to the mountain gorillas) are located, is usually cool with a few showers given the fact that they both experience a tropical kind of climate. While both Rwanda & Uganda share an almost similar climate/weather patterns, and travel seasons (peak/low seasons). However, there is two (02) vital things to note about Rwanda & Uganda; the price of gorilla permits and the Price of accommodation. Price of Gorilla Permits ( Rwanda Vs Uganda): Rwanda gorilla trekking permits cost USD1,500 per person, while Uganda gorilla permits cost USD600 per person until 01st/July/2020 when Uganda intends to increase it to USD700 – still a lot cheaper than Rwanda. Price of accommodation ( Rwanda Vs Uganda): Rwanda has set itself as a premier luxury gorilla trekking destination in Africa. Her lodges and hotels have been constructed to meet the demands of the luxurious travel communities – the prices at these hotels equally are ” up in the sky”. Rwanda’s properties like the newly opened Singita Kwitonda Lodge, Bisate eco-lodge will charge anything between USD1,750 – USD2,200 per person per night in a double room. Just so you know, the properties are surely luxurious but the price is what we find ridiculous! Uganda, unlike Rwanda, will serve all sorts of traveler budgets. Accommodation in Uganda is categorized as budget, mid-range & luxury. Speak to us about your travel budget and we will recommend properties that meet your budget. If your plan is to go gorilla trekking in February, then it is idle that you plan to book your February Gorilla Holiday at least 06 months in advance. This is because February is a Peak season month, gorilla permits are very competitive to secure, and most hotels are equally sold out well in advance. The packing list for gorilla trekking In December is no different. Bring; a pair of sturdy hiking boots, a pair of long socks or gaiters, a pair of gloves, a long-sleeved shirt, trousers, a day pack to carry your valuables and lunches on the trek, a camera (with extra memory chips & batteries), a pair of binoculars, a hut/cap, and a raincoat for just in case the weather changes. For chimpanzee tracking, Kibale Forest National park has been named as the world capital for primates – this Ugandan park has over 13 primate species wondering within this lush forest cover. other than Kibale forest, there are a few more chimpanzee trekking destinations in Uganda: Kyambura gorge, Kalinzu Forest & Budongo Forest. where one can experience chimpanzee tracking – each of them is unique and none compares to the other. As for wildlife Safaris in Uganda, the month of February is hot & dusty – this Might make the safaris less enjoyable especially if you intend to visit the northern parks; Murchison Falls NP & Kidepo Valley NP. Recommendation: A visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park for the game drives and the boat safari on the Kazinga Channel is worthwhile. Also, include an overnight visit into the Ishasha sector – home to the tree-climbing lions. Sample Itinerary based on Recommendation above: 07 Days Lions & Primates Safari Rwanda – Things to See & Do in February: Similarly for Rwanda, February can be a great time to combine gorilla tracking and chimpanzee tracking. A visit to Akagera National park might be worthwhile too. The Dry February is the prime time for watching wildlife in the park. Animals are easier to spot because the bush thins out and wildlife concentrates around the lakes.
