Where to Film African Rhinos in Kenya
Ol Pejeta Conservancy Rhino filming in East Africa
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is home to over 100 critically endangered black rhino who live on the land along with 20 southern white rhinos. The conservancy prides itself in safeguarding the critically endangered species. Ol Pejeta is a haven sanctuary for Najin and Fatu, the two last remaining mother and daughter northern white rhinos on the planet. However, neither of them can reproduce due to their age (See: The last northern white rhino profile). In August 2019 a pioneering egg harvesting procedure was carried out in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, fuelling hope for the survival of the species.
The 360km² land offers a wide range of habitat from grasslands, bushland and riverine. Due to the diversity of the Laikipia region has the richest diversity of wildlife in Kenya, including the Big Five, outside of the Masai Mara. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Rhino filming in East Africa
The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy was founded in 1983 to provide a haven for rhinos. The rhino population has grown from 15 to 169 rhinos, which currently makes up 14% of Kenya’s rhino population.

Lake Nakuru National Park Rhino filming in East Africa
Lake Nakuru National Park, well-placed by nature over the great escarpment surrounded by yellow fever trees, creates a scenic highlight of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. It’s a gorgeous setting for seeing and filming white rhinos in Kenya, and your chances are pretty good, even on a one-night stay. For a chance to capture the best shots, we recommend heading out early to find them grazing on the lakeshore in the rising mist of the morning. Black rhinos live here too, but sightings are hit-and-miss.

Located on the south-western outskirts of Kenya, Nairobi National Park is home to more than 50 black rhinos. The park’s success in protecting and successfully breeding black rhino has earned the name Kifaru (meaning Rhino in Swahili) Ark. Nairobi National Park is one of Africa’s smallest Safari park, and offers a variety of wildlife that can sometimes be viewed with Nairobi’s skyscrapers or planes coming in for a landing.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Rhino filming in East Africa
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) offers some of the richest wildlife experiences on the African content and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The region’s name is derived from the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive and unfilled caldera The area is home to over 25,000 large animals and various bird species. While rhinos aren’t listed as the top animal sighted in the Ngorongoro crater, sightings of black rhino hiding among the fever trees are quite common. With a couple of days of Filming, you might get an amazing opportunity to see and film them.

Where to Film African Rhinos in Uganda
Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary Rhino filming in East Africa
Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place where you can track, see, photograph and film Rhinos in Uganda. The Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary is a 70km² property wholesomely dedicated to breeding and hopefully reintroducing the white Rhinos back into the wild. Their original home in the wild is Murchison Falls National Park & Kidepo Valley National Park – due to poaching, none exists in the true wild.

Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre – UWEC
For filmmakers operating on a tight budget, UWEC is an ideal place to consider filming Rhinos in Uganda. The centre is located approximately 15minutes from Entebbe International Airport – making it logistically the most affordable Rhino Filming Location.
During your shoot, you may opt to stay at the reasonably priced Airport guesthouse or if your budget permits, you may stay at the boutique-themed Karibu Guesthouse located only 10 minutes from UWEC.
Where to film African rhinos in Rwanda
Akagera National Park is the only place in Rwanda where one can track, see, photograph or film Rhinos.
Originally hailing from Safari Park Dvůr Králové (Czech Republic), Flamingo Land (United Kingdom) and Ree Park Safari (Denmark), and selected from the EAZA Ex Situ Programme (EEP) for Black Rhino, the five rhinos began their journey from the Czech Republic on the 23rd June following months of preparation at Safari Park Dvůr Králové. Every precaution was taken to minimize stress and ensure their well-being throughout the translocation process. They were flown to Kigali before being transferred to Akagera National Park by truck.
