While many lodges around Lake Mburo National Park have recently evolved to run their own bike tours, we attest to the go riding experience from Mihingo Lodge – our Favourite upmarket accommodation located at the boundary of the Park, and that of the well-priced Rwakobo Rock Lodge. Both lodges offer locally trained cycling guided with immense knowledge about the flora and fauna that surrounds you during your ride. On your ride, you cycle among grazing herds of zebras, giraffes, impalas, warthogs, topis and waterbucks. We highly recommend pre-booking your mountain biking excursion prior to arrival as there are very limited bikes available each day.
Cost of a Cycling Safari in Lake Mburo National Park.
- Mihingo Lodge charges $20 per person for a cycling safari that lasts about 0ne (01) hour.
- With up to 15 bikes available for hire, Rwakobo Lodge charges $ per person.
Cyclists intending to cycle inside the National Park have to pay the following fees to UWA:
- Park entrance fees – $40pp for Foreign Non-residents, $30pp for foreign Residents or Ugx20,000 for East African citizens.
- Cycling Fees – $30pp for Foreign Non-residents & Residents or Ugx30,000 for East African citizens.
Best time to go biking in Lake Mburo National Park
Although Lake Mburo National Park is open all year-round, the best time to go on a bike tour is in the dry season months of June to August or December to February especially for wildlife viewing as most animals gather around the lake and other water sources. The bike trails are also drier and less taxing to navigate.

How to get to Lake Mburo National Park Cycling Safari in Lake Mburo
Lake Mburo National Park is located between Masaka and Mbarara towns in western Uganda, 228km (4-5 hours) from Kampala. Two gates enter the park; the Nshara Gate is 13kms past Lyantonde while the junction for Sanga Gate is at Sanga trading centre, 27km past Lyantonde. If staying at Mihingo Lodge and would Like to save some cash by not paying for the transit day to the Lodge, we recommend taking the Akageti route that leads directly to Mihingo Lodge.
The Akageti Route: When you reach Akageti (15 km after Lyantonde, 89 km from Masaka, 220 km from Kampala) turn left after going over the last humps in Akageti trading centre on to a dirt road, follow the road through the Nshara Government ranch for about 15 km up to the first little village called Akashenshero. Drive straight through Akashenshero. 2,5 km after the village there is a Mihingo sign on the right side of the road. Follow the signs to Mihingo on a little dirt track for 3 km.
