Night Safari in Lake Mburo

Night Safari in Lake Mburo

Night Safari in Lake Mburo National Park

A Night Safari (game drive) in Lake Mburo National Park offers participants the opportunity to view the park and its wildlife in a whole new style. The drives start just a few minutes to 7:00 pm and typically last 02 hours – you might be advised to leave earlier by your guide to catch the amazing sunset at the popular Kazuma Lookout with a glass of wine and snacks to nibble on as you watch the sun go down. After the sunsets, your guide & your night safari guide from Uganda Wildlife Authority- UWA will then connect the Flashlight onto the vehicle’s battery and then the night safari in Lake Mburo National Park begins.

The UWA ranger guide will hold & flash the spotlight around as he looks out for nocturnal wildlife species such as the leopard, spotted hyena and perhaps even the lone lion rumoured to have come in from neighbouring Akagera National Park in Rwanda. Also watch for smaller creatures like the white-tailed mongoose, genet cat, bush pig, galago (there is one resident at the Mihingo Lodge), and porcupine.

Mihingo Lodge is one of the few places in Africa where you can watch thick-tailed Gallagos in their natural environment. These are a nocturnal primate species that have become very used to guests and come to the platform below the bar most evenings (No Guaranttees!)

What to Bring or wear on a night Safari in Lake Mburo National Park

  • Bring and wear insect repellent to keep away the bugs and mosquitoes during the night safari.
  • Bring a fully charged Camera (with a flash) for night safari photography – it is difficult to take a photo in the dark, you might be able to capture a few blurry ones which are a lot better than nothing.
  • Carry some extra clothing as it may get chilly (cold) during your return trip during the Night Safari.

A Little about Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park covers an area of 370 square kilometres (143 square miles) and, though small, has a variety of habitats and biomes. Along with the region’s 13 lakes, 5 of which are included within the borders of the park, there are extensive swamps that support a rich wetland ecosystem with an array of wildlife. Savannah grasslands, copses of acacia and Commiphora, riparian forests, and papyrus marshes provide a haven for a wide range of herbivores, a few carnivores, and avian life. A family safari in Uganda will offer a chance to Explore Lake Mburo, with quite a lot of activities being suitable for families with Kids.
