Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s Largest Safari Park and home to over 76 Mammals & about 450 bird species that roam the skies of the gigantic Murchison falls national Park. The Six (06) Murchison Falls Access Gates:
- Kichumubanyobo Gate:
This is by far the most commonly used gate for travellers from Kampala/Entebbe. The Gate is located on the Southern sector of Murchison falls National Park approximately 26km/16mi from Masindi town. Masindi is the last town before you get into the park we suggest that you get all your supplies including gas (petrol/diesel) refills done here.

From Kampala/Entebbe, Kichumbanyobo Gate is approximately 305km – a journey that could last about 5 – 6 hours. At a small trading centre called Nakitoma along the Nakasongola highway lookout for a Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary signpost on your left – follow the dirt road for about 5km where you will find the gate to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – The only place in Uganda where you can track White Rhinos on Foot – something most travellers to Murchison falls national park like to add to their itineraries.
- Bugungu & Mubako Gates:
Taking a slightly different direction out of Masindi town, the longer but yet very scenic route passing the escarpment (with views of Lake Albert) to Bugungu/Mubako gate is approximately 135km
This route to Murchison falls is synonymous with travellers booked at safari lodges bordering the park. Using the Bugungu/Mubako route to get to your safari lodge bordering the park saves you Park Entry fees for the first day if you drive directly to your lodge.
The Northern Murchison Falls Entry Gates; Chobe, Wankwar and Tangi are ideal for travellers accessing Murchison falls national park from the Northern Districts of Lira, Gulu, Kitgum, Soroti and Kidepo Valley National Park. Travellers from Kampala/Entebbe that have booked accommodation at Hornbill, Fort Murchison, Tembo or Heritage Safari Lodge (Lodges Outside/bordering the park) often use this route to save on Park Entry fees for the first Day if they drive directly to their lodge.
