Boat Safari to Murchison falls

A Safari into Murchison Falls National Park is incomplete if one skips the amazing Boat Safari to the top of the Mighty Murchison falls – the worlds strongest waterfalls.

The boat safari upstream from the Paraa jetty on the Victoria – Nile river that bisects Murchison falls National Park is a three (03) hours round trip that cruises through the scenic beauty of the Park as seen from the comfort of the boat.

Boat trips to the falls are scheduled to depart the Paraa jetty at 08:30 am 11:00 am as well as in the afternoons at 2:30 pm. Rarely do travellers sign up for the morning and mid-morning (08:30 am & 11:00 am) trips.

While on the boat safari to Murchison falls – you will encounter the large Nile crocodiles, buffalos, waterbucks, elephants swimming and large pods of hippos dipped in the shoreline waters of the river Nile. For bird lovers, look out for the red-throated bee-eaters, African Jacana, Saddle-billed stork, Malachite Kingfishers, Pied Kingfishers, Marabou storks, cormorants, African darters, and the African Fish Eagle among others. The boat safari to Murchison falls is crowned by the sighting of the falls in a distance – sorry you can’t get any closer than except for travellers that opt to take on the 45-minutes guided hike to the top of the falls.

The top of falls Hike: This is a guided nature walk that follows a section that the historical Victorian explorer  Sir Samuel Baker and his wife Lady Florence baker took on the way from Equatorial Nile Basin – present-day South Sudan. The walk to the top of the falls last 45 minutes for the average hiker – it can take longer for the old and unfit senior travellers – the guides are patient enough to wait, and there are resting points for hikers to catch a breath and also enjoy the vista. A camera is vital for travellers intending to take on the hike to the top of the falls.

The fee for hiking to the top falls is separate from what you pay for the boat safari to Murchison falls. UWA currently charges $15 per person – refer to UWA tarrif for up-to-date rates.
