Rushaga Gorilla Family Groups – Gorilla trekking & Habituation – Highest Number of Gorillas in Bwindi – 4½ hours from Kigali – Affordable Accommodation.


Rushaga is located south of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in the district of Kisoro. Rushaga has grown to become very popular with gorilla trekking and gorilla habituation Experiences.

Rushaga is a favourite of trekkers because it does provide for the shortest drive to trek gorillas in Uganda – that is if you fly in through kigali and drive down to Bwindi – the journey only lasts 4½ hours from kigali to Rushaga – Bwindi.

Rushaga area is also very popular with the unique Gorilla Habituation Experience only currently offer in this area –  NOT any other in Bwindi Forest.

Rushaga Gorilla Family Groups

Rushaga region boasts of the highest number of habituated gorilla groups compared to other gorilla trekking regions in Bwindi Forest National Park that only have between one to three families. Rushaga gorilla Family groups include; Nshongi family, Mishaya family, Kahungye, Busingye, Bweza and then two other gorilla habituation experience families of Bikingi and Bushaho.

Gorilla Habituation in Rushaga is a new tourism product introduced by Uganda Wildlife Authority – UWA. Gorilla Habituation allows for 4 tourists to join a team of experienced researchers on a gorilla habituation journey – the expereince lasts the whole days and allows upto 4 hours with the gorillas -making for a good viewing and photographic encounter with the Gorilla’s.
