Rushaga Best Area for Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in 2016.

What is the Best Spot in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for Gorilla Trekking? Gorilla Habituation Experience in the Rushaga Area:

There are two groups being habituated in the Rushaga area and you can join the researchers, trackers, and others in spending four hours with a gorilla family, add the hike to the group and back out again and you have a full-day activity that will stay with you for a long time to come.

Permits are 1,500 usd and the number of permits is limited to 4 permits for a group of gorillas being habituated in the Rushaga area of the park.

It takes a bit more planning in regards to when to do the activity because of limited permits available.

The Gorilla Habituation Experience is not to be missed in 2016, available only in Uganda and only in the Rushaga area of the park.


Rushaga – Nkuringo – Easy Access from Rwanda:

It is a 10 hour journey from Entebbe Airport in Uganda to the Rushaga area of Bwindi Forest.  What most do not realize that it is only a 3-hour drive from Kigali airport to the Rushaga Area.

The Rushaga area of Bwindi Forest can be easily accessed from Entebbe or Kampala by taking a flight to Kisoro – the flight is one of the more scenic ones in Uganda and includes views of the Virunga Volcanoes – Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mutanda.

The flight is 1 1/2 hours long and then it is a short drive to the Rushaga or Nkuringo area to your lodge that you have chosen for your Gorilla activity in the area.

The flight back to Entebbe is just as easy for connection of a flight back to your home-country or continue your safari with us to other places within Uganda.

Budget – Moderate Lodging is also available at the Travellers Rest Hotel in the town of Kisoro.

Hiking Trails in and around the Rushaga Areas of Bwindi Forest:

Hiking Trails abound in South Bwindi Forest such as the Kapata Trail which is an easy 3 hour trail where you combine, nature, local history and culture.

The Kara Ridge Trail is moderate in difficulty where you have Panoramic Views of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Rubuguri.  This trail takes in local culture, traditions including the original People of the Forest – the Batwa People.

The Six-Hour 360 degree trail is a bit more challenging – the views will make up for it as you can look into the Congo, Rwanda and surrounding Uganda.

There is also the Famous Trails through Bwindi Forest that either begin or end in Kisoro and include canoeing across Lake Mutanda.

 One activity not to miss is the Buniga Forest Walk with the Batwa Pygmies  who have lived in the area for over 500,000 years and were the original people of the Forest.
