A gorilla Safari might be the most expensive adventure travel experience in Africa. The price of a gorilla safari is overly affected by the price of gorilla permits. Gorilla Permit prices vary depending on where you choose to go; Uganda, Rwanda, or DR Congo. Why is gorilla trekking so costly

Mountain gorilla Permits in Rwanda cost USD1,500 per person trekking Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park and USD700 per person for tracking mountain gorillas in Bwindi or Mgahinga National Park in Uganda.

In Uganda, a gorilla tracking permit costs US$700 per person for Foreign non-residents (international tourists) but has been temporarily revised to $400 as a recovery move during the ongoing COVID-19 Era.

  • Accommodation costs in Uganda 

Uganda offers a varied range of accommodation from very basic budget tented camps with shared ablution spaces, affordable -midrange gorilla safari lodges to great-value high-end gorilla safari lodges located in the serenity of the Mountain gorillas.

Budget: $50-$70 per person per night based on 02 sharing.

Bwindi & Mgahinga national park – where all the gorilla trekking happens in Uganda is a 9-10 hours drive from Kampala/Entebbe. The most common way of getting from Kampala to Bwindi/Mgahinga is by road. Most people book an all-inclusive holiday which caters to transport. However, for you that want to know what transport from Kampala/Entebbe to Bwindi may cost;

  • Toyota Super custom – seats up to 5 costs $100 – $190 per vehicle per day.
  • Toyota Landcruiser – 5 seater costs $200 – $250 per vehicle per day.
  • Toyota Landcruiser – 7 seater costs $250 – $300 per vehicle per day.

The prices mentioned above include; vehicle hire, fuel, and driver fees per day.

If your budget allows, you may consider flying from Entebbe International Airport or out of Kajjansi airfield to Bwindi or Mgahinga National park.

The most common way of getting from Kigali to Volcanoes is by road. Most people book an all-inclusive holiday which caters to transport. However, for you that want to know what transport from Kigali to Volcanoes may cost; Toyota Landcruisers cost $200 – $250 per vehicle per day. The price is inclusive of vehicle hire, fuel, and driver fees per day.

Helicopter transfers from Kigali (Rwanda) can be arranged at an additional cost.
