The current COVID-19 pandemic only changed the way things are done. Particularly for gorilla trekking, there have been new Health measures introduced to minimise the chance of either people infecting the gorillas or fellow trekkers while on the hike to find the mountain gorillas.

Among the notable things that have been introduced is compulsory mask use. All trekkers are expected to bring & wear a mask all through their trek to the gorillas and also during your entire travel across the world. The mask if properly worn will protect both you and the endangered mountain gorillas – only found in Uganda, Rwanda & DR Congo.

Realm Africa Safaris™ only operates Gorilla tours & Safaris to Uganda & Rwanda – Not DR Congo. Read & Learn why We don’t go to Congo.

Secondly, the Uganda Wildlife Authority has introduced mandatory temperature checks conducted on each of the trekkers prior to setting off on the trek to the gorillas. This ensures that all the persons on the trek are confirmed healthy before setting off. This act makes Gorilla Trekking a Safe thing to do during the COVID-19 era.

Thirdly, UWA has put a strong emphasis on the rule of social distance between the trekkers, and also the 7 meters rule between trekkers and the gorillas during the trek. This has made gorilla trekking remain a Safe thing to do during COVID-19.

Finally, all trekkers intending to travel to either Rwanda or Uganda – the only safe places to track mountain gorillas – during the current COVID-19 times must ensure they bring with them proof of a negative PCR COVID-19 test certificate that ought to be in print copy – not SMS or Digital.
