What is the cost of a filming Permit in Uganda? Where do I get a Filming Permit in Uganda? can I do it myself or do I use a local film fixer? How long would it take before I get my media permit?


Filming Permits in Uganda come in two categories; Media Permits commonly referred to as press accreditation, and Location Filming Permits.

Media permits (press accreditation) allows foreign journalist/media teams to exercise their profession within Uganda. All media cards in Uganda are issued by the Uganda Media Council. cost of a filming permit in Uganda

Location permits unlike press accreditation are issued by a local authority or property owner/management upon meeting the set requirements. The complexity of the project and the length of your shoot might greatly affect the overall cost of the permit.


What is the Cost of filming Permits in Uganda?


The cost or price of media permits in Uganda depends on how long your shoot is going to last; If filming in Uganda for 1 – 30 days (1 month), the filming permit will cost US$175 per person, a fee of US$225 per person is paid for a period beyond 30 days up to six months, and a fee of US$325 per person is paid for a period of two years.

** The fees mentioned above are set and can be amended by the Uganda Media Council without any prior consultation. we, therefore, remind you to treat these as a guide. 

Location Permits range between $100 – $1,000 per day depending on the nature of your film project. Unlike the price of media permits, the price for location permits is highly negotiable (not fixed). Where do I get the filming permits in Uganda?


Media Permits (filming Permits or Press Accreditation) in Uganda is issued by the Uganda Media Council after each individual or crew member fills out FORM G (click link to Download form). This form must be accompanied by copies of scanned passport (bios Page) and a recent passport-sized photo to be used in processing your Media card (Press accreditation).

It does take us approximately 02 – 03 working days from the time we receive all the above-mentioned documents to process your media card.

To accompany all the individually filled out FORM G’S for each crew member, the team leader has got to send us a detailed write-up or synopsis of the film you intend to shoot in Uganda.

After all the above is sent to us, we will then proceed to submit these to the Uganda Media Council for approval. Upon approval, we will then contact and inform you of this achievement.

After securing your Media Permits, we will notify you, and you will be met by a representative of Realm Africa film fixers who will personally hand over the media cards to you.

Location Permits are issued by the relevant management/property owner of the location at which you intend for the film. for instance, if you were visiting Uganda to film the Batwa tribe, you would then have to seek permission from the elders. However, if your choose to shoot any scenes within the forest of Bwindi – which is a national park, then extra permission ought to be sought from Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) the body mandated to oversee all activities in Uganda’s National Parks.
