 GOLDEN MONKEY TREKKING FEES IN UGANDA INCREASED


Golden Monkey Trekking Fees In Uganda have Increased! Foreign Non-Residents USD100, Foreign Residents USD90, East African Residents UGX 60,000.

Effective 01st/July/2020, the Uganda Wildlife Authority has increased Golden Monkey Trekking Permit fees from USD90 to USD100 per person for Foreign Non – Resident tourist intending to track Golden Monkeys in Mgahinga National Park. Similarly, the new Gorilla Trekking Fees will include a day’s Park entry into Mgahinga Park.


WHY HAS UGANDA INCREASED THE GOLDEN  MONKEY TREKKING FEES?


Conservation of the rare Golden Monkeys that can only be seen in Mgahinga Park, and nowhere else is the major reason for the increase of Golden Monkey Trekking permit Feess in Uganda. The monies collected from the sale of Golden Monkey Trekking permits is used to fund various conservation projects, par park rangers, trackers, tourism police and mountain gorilla doctors who all ensure gorillas are in good health. Golden monkeys are currently considered as equally endangered species (just like the Gorillas are).

GOLDEN MONKEYS IN UGANDA.


Golden Monkeys In Uganda can Only be seen in Mgahinga National Park. There currently about 2000 – 4000 Golden monkeys that roam the bamboo forest of Mgahinga Park. Golden Monkeys typically live in troops of 30 – 100 individuals led by an alpha male, and mostly feed on bamboo shoots, a variety of seasonal fruits, bamboo leaves, lichens, sprouts, flowers, leaves, and small invertebrates. Golden Monkeys are very cheeky and playful spending most of the time jumping between Bamboo stems.

unlike Gorilla Trekking which is limited to 08 Persons trekking a Gorilla group, Golden Monkey Trekking has no visitor number limit meaning it could sometime be crowded. However, the upside to Golden Moneky trekking Is that it’s only done at Mgahinga Park which is a small park off the touristic Path – Not visited by many.

Golden Monkey Trekking can easily be combined With Gorilla trekking In Mgahinga Park. Mgahinga Gorilla Permits cost USD700, and must be booked and fully paid for in advance – we recommend booking & payment at least 06 months in advance.

However, this season is also known as the peak season and is traditionally characterized by crowds.
