Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located in the sothern corner of Uganda – bordering with Rwanda. Mgahinga from Kampala / Entebbe by road is approximately 510km (9-10hrs). While a great section of The drive will be on good paved road, the traffic on these roads can be phsycologically distrubing for a tourist. This is why we like to recommend Flying to Mgahinga. Aerolink operates daily flights to Mgahinga National park landing at Kisoro Airport. The raod transfer from Kisoro to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is only 80 minutes.
Travelers visiting the Mgahinga for gorilla trekking or any other adventure activities have up to three (03) ways of getting to this Park;
- Drive from Kampala/Entebbe to Mghainga – takes 9-10hours.
- Fly into Rwanda (Kigali International airport) and drive for approximately 5-hours to get to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
- Fly from Entebbe to the Kisoro. The flight from Entebbe lasts 80 minutes. The road transfer from Kisoro Airport to the Mgahinga takes around the same time (80minutes).
While all three options mentioned above will get you to Mgahinga, we honestly recommend flying to Mgahinga from Entebbe – a journey that will only last a maximum of 3 hrs (Flying to Kisoro & Transfering by road to Mgahinga). There are daily scheduled domestic flights from Entebbe to Kisoro with Aerolink – A flight to Mgahinga costs about $5oo per person return.
Flying to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park on a regular scheduled domestic flight
From Entebbe, you may opt to either fly with Aerolink (preferred) or fly Uganda – there are only two of them operating scheduled & chartered domestic flights to Nkuringo (Bwindi). The flights typically leave Entebbe international Airport (Aerolink) or Kajjansi Airfield (Fly Uganda) at about 7:30 am. Check-in times may vary but typically are 1 hour earlier – 6:30 am.
You’ll fly to Kisoro Airport where you will meet a representative of the company with which you booked your Mgahinga gorilla tour. who will greet and assist you with your luggage (We recommend packing it all in a soft-sided duffel bag buy one on Amazon.com).
You will then embark on a scenic drive to Mgahinga National Park a journey that will take about 80minutes before you can arrive at your preferred Gorilla safari lodge.

What next? What to expect when in Mgahinga
You will then have the rest of the day to yourself and you may opt to rest and enjoy the surrounding of your lodge, take a leisurely walk to the community (we recommend taking a local guide from the lodge) or simply stay back and unpack for your next day’s gorilla trekking experience.
