The Christmas Gorilla Family is the latest addition to the habituated mountain gorilla groups found in the Nkuringo Region. There is now three (03) fully Habituated gorilla groups in Nkuringo Region.
Christmas Gorilla Family is the recently commissioned gorilla group in the Nkuringo Gorilla Trekking Region located southwest of Uganda – 5 hours drive from Kigali, Rwanda.
In the past, there only were 02 habituated mountain gorilla groups in Nkuringo available to tourists to trek on the traditional 01 hours guided gorilla trekking experience. With only 08 tourists allowed to trek a particular gorilla family, this meant only 16 Gorilla permits were available for treks In the Nkuringo region. The recent commissioning of the Newly habituated Christmas Gorilla family – group now brings the Habituated gorilla groups of the Nkuringo Region to 03. The 03 habituated mountain Gorilla groups of Nkuringo now include; Nkuringo, Bishaho, and the newly commissioned Christmas Gorilla Group. The commissioning of the Christmas Gorilla group means Nkuringo Regions now has additional 08 gorilla trekking permits available for purchase, bringing the total gorilla Trekking Permits available In Nkuringo Region to 24.
Christmas gorilla family comprises of 09 individuals under the lead of a silverback named Christmas. The actual numbers of this group are still expected to rise and other members are expected to join this exceptionally friendly gorilla family.

Best time to visit the Christmas mountain gorilla family
