Special Needs Gorilla Trekking Safari for Persons with Disabilities – Staying at Persons with Disabilities (PWD’s) friendly lodges – Special Transportation (both air & Road) – PWD’s trained Safari guide – Exceptional experiences.
Gorilla trekking or tracking – whatever you opt to call it, is one of the top five things to do and see in Africa before you die. Gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda live high-up in the mountains (between 2,300 to 4,500 meters ASL), and probably the reason they are called “mountain gorillas”. The journey up the mountains of either the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda or Mgahinga & Bwindi forest National Parks in Uganda can be strenuous (of course not always) with treks up into the forest lasting up to 4hours – this eventually puts a limit to who can go gorilla trekking with most tour operators discouraging old persons, and or persons with any physical disability from taking part in gorilla trekking.
Realm Africa Safaris is probably one of the few tour operators that will not discourage old persons and or persons living with disabilities from experiencing gorilla trekking in either Uganda and or Rwanda. We arrange special needs gorilla trekking Safaris for persons with disabilities- PWD’s friendly gorilla trekking safaris in Uganda & Rwanda.
Gorilla trekking safaris typically involve trekking up mountains, and through thick forest vegetation (Ranger guides literary have to use machetes to create paths). However, for our Special needs gorilla trekking safaris for persons with disabilities, we use either traditional bamboo stretcher-like carriers ( much easier to manoeuvre in the forest) or the innovatively built modern steel base sedan chairs with seat belts and handles to ease the process of ferrying our clients up into the forest. We assign up to 12 able-bodied local porters (natives of the forest, familiar with the terrain) to carry you on either the traditional bamboo carrier or the modern gorilla trekking sedan chair (subject to availability at the time of booking).
