Rwanda – The Country of a Thousand Hills…

Rwanda is tiny, and a leisurely safari- Holiday around the entire country will not take more than 10 days. For all its small size, the country has a lot more to offer than one looking at it on a Map would rather imagine.

The main attraction is the mountains of the iconic Volcanoes National Park, a line of mesmerizing peaks that are the home of mountain gorillas and other highly endangered animals. In the southern part is the biological hotspot of the Nyungwe Forest, and in the East, almost at the border with Tanzania lie the savannas and lakes of the Akagera National Park. For loads of interaction with Rwandan people and a glimpse into how Rwanda aims to face the future, Kigali and Lake Kivu are a perfect counterpoint to each other.

Accommodation in Rwanda varies from Budget, midrange to sheer Luxury. Rwanda’s paved roads make travel around Rwanda a pleasure and the network of helicopter routes turn inter-park transfers into delightful scenic flights that we often like to consider if time is a constraint for our client.

The best time to visit

The best wildlife-viewing months in Rwanda are during the Dry season, from June to September. Primate walks in the forest are a big part of any safari in Rwanda. The habitat of rainforests is, by default, very wet and one can’t avoid rain completely. Walking in the forest is easier in the Dry season and that is also the recommended time for most primate walks, including gorilla trekking.

Overall, Rwanda parks are best visited in the dry season, from June to September. Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest is marginally better in the Wet season, but that advantage could be countered by the very slippery trails. General hiking and other primate walks are best in the Dry season.
