Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk – Experience Nyungwe Forest on a skyway bridge
The Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk is one of the main activities and attractions tha drwa travelers to Nyungwe forest. The Nyungwe forest Canopy walk starts at the Uwinka visitor’s center located just under 200 meters from the main road.
The Uwinka visitors centre stands at 2500 meters above sea level and the Nyungwe forest canopy walk usually lasts about 02-hrs. While on this walk,you will walk 204 meters down into the misty afro – montane Nyungwe forest. The ranger guides that do accompany you on this walk are both French and English speaking guides.
Within Nyungwe forest are several walking / hiking trails, each trail uniquely identified by names borrowed from tree species found within Nyungwe Forest. The common Igishigishigi trail is named after tree ferns that dominate this trail, the Umuyove trail is significant of mahogany tree species.
The Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk has 03 walking sections, the first section is 45meters, second section is 90 meters and the last section is 25 meters. While on any of The trails, you may encounter random primates like; black and white Colobous Monkeys, L’hoest Monkeys, Blue monkeys and Many others.

The Nyungwe forest canopy walk is one activity we like to recommend to that all our clients have evisiting Rwanda’s far-flung Nyungwe forest park.
Special Note:
All visitors intending to indulge in Nyungwe forest canopy walk are advised to carry enough drinking water, walking sticks, camera(s) with a good zoom (Our recommendation is; Canon SXH60 or better) to help capture the distant happenings of Nyungwe forest.
The Nyungwe forest canopy walk departure times from the Uwinka visitor’s center are: 08:00am, 10:00am, 01:00pm and 03:00pm daily.
Because Nyungwe forest is 6 hours(217km) from Kigali we usually recommend that our Clients consider adding acouple of more activities to the Nyungwe forest Chimp trekking Safari. Among these are; Nyungwe forest Canopy walk, Bird Watching in Nyungwe forest and Nature Walking safari experiences. However, this requires that you make you Nyungwe Safari a 4 to 5 day safari not 3 days.
