Ngamba trail formerly Ngamba Island - Chimp Sanctuary forest walkFormerly referred to as ” Ngamba Island – Chimp Sanctuary forest Walk”, the current Ngamba trail still remains interesting and worth a visit.

This one (01) hour Ngamba trail forest walk experience still leads you deeper into the tropical forests of Ngamba Islands – chimpanzee sanctuary where you get to follow the chimpanzee trails in the forest, sight varying forest bird species – Innocent a resident site guide will help you single out the birds of the day.

What has changed about the former Ngamba Island – Chimpanzee Sanctuary forest walk now branded ” Ngamba trail ” ?

The re-brand of the former Ngambi Island – Chimpanzee Sanctuary forest walk – now called ” Ngamba Trail”  has changed just one very important and yet the most interesting bit of the entire forest walk experience. The new Ngamba Trail, is now exclusively for overnight visitors at the island. This forest walking experience starts as early as 8:00am (sometimes earlier) just before the chimps are released back into the forest from the withholding cages (ooh yes! the Ngamba Island chimps stay in withholding steel cages overnight and only get to enjoy the tropical forest by day).

Travelers to the island intending to indulge in the Ngamba trail forest walk are encouraged to overnight at the Ngamba Island tented Camp – an exclusive – four tent property on the Island – setup to not only to offer upmarket-value for money service, but also to supplement on the income that supports the chimpanzee conservation activities. In other-words your stay at Ngamba Island tented camp whether on safari, holiday on on a honeymoon does indirectly support Chimp conservation – something we like to emphasize to all our clients interested in visiting Ngamba Island – Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

Staying overnight at the island allows visitors an early rise in-order to start the walk through the tropical forest just before the chimps are let loose to enjoy the 100 acreage of tropical forest by day.

Why do we have to go into the forest earlier before the Chimps are let loose?

Chimpanzees though closely related to humans with up-to 98.7% DNA similarity, they still remain wild and could potentially be dangerous and harmful to humans now that they are grown and are no longer as friendly as the little smiley chimps that huged and held hands with visitors on the former Ngamba Island – chimpanzee Sanctuary forest walk.

What to expect while on the new Ngamba trail.

Ngamba trail is still a small group forest walk experience admitting a maximum of four (04) visitors on each walk.  We recommend that all participants on the Ngamba trail walking experience be reasonably fit and healthy as the walk (not intense) could get challenging to the unfit or extremely old  persons – the management of Ngamba Island – Chimp Sanctuary reserves the FULL rights of Admission.   All participants on Ngamba trail Walking experience  are accompanied by trained Chimpanzee trust staff for better forest life interpretations.

Very specific rules, guidelines and safety instructions regarding clothing, cameras, glasses, and behavior are given to every visitor when signing up for this unique opportunity to walk on the trails of the Chimpanzees of Ngamba Island.

Special Note:

Remember this is a conservation program meant to create awareness about Chimpanzee conservation for future generations. The money that you pay for the one (01) hour Ngamba trail is your in-direct contribution to the cause.
