Lake Mutanda – in the shadows of the Mufumbiro Mountains  – Virunga Volcanoes – one of the most stunning scenic lakes in Africa

Southwest Uganda has been gifted with many scenic wonders – and one of the most well-kept secrets is Lake Mutanda which arguably is one of the most beautiful and scenic lakes in Africa, framed by the Virunga Volcanoes.

If you stay along or above the lake in one of the lodges and observe the most amazing sunsets, see the sun rise, the lake enshrouded by a magical morning mist – the closest thing to a spiritual experience.

Most visitors to Uganda are focused on Gorilla trekking and drive from Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and back all the while not knowing that they missed some of the most scenic spots in all of Africa such as Mgahinga Gorilla Park, Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mutanda.

Lake Mutanda has probably been one of the most missed locations near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in part that there were not enough accommodations developed for one thing, a thing that seems to be changing.  The Lake was not discovered as one of the best lakes to visit in Uganda by National Geographic, by Lonely Planet but by the thousands who over the years have taken a walking safari through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and then down to Lake Mutanda and paddled across it, hey were simply mesmerized by what they found and saw, when it came to stunning scenery this was the gold pot at the end of the rainbow, without a doubt and they would place their pictures on Google Plus, Picasa, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and others and their friends would ask – where is that Lake?

Uganda is the Pearl of Africa – the Land of Lakes and Mutanda is one of its jewel in the crown that nature has gifted the Pearl of Africa with. If you like a lake in a beautiful setting, search no further than Lake Mutanda in southwestern Uganda.

Uganda is known for adrenaline pumping adventures and Lake Mutanda will not leave you disappointed – hiking up down steep valleys, volcano climbing at nearby Mgahinga Gorilla park with its three volcanoes, gorilla tracking at either Nkuringo in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and if we take bikes along for your safari you can mountain bike up and down the hills around Lake Mutanda.

If you are into a bit more tranquility – there is much for you also – relax as you move across a placid morning Lake Mutanda in a dugout canoe, enjoy the sunset and the morning sunrise as you sit with a cold drink at night or a freshly brewed Ugandan coffee in your hand.

Lake Mutanda is very inspirational and you just might find it the same…bring along a journal and let the streams of creativity in you flow like they never did before.  Lake Mutanda – you can certainly spend here more than a day and enjoy your time in the shadows of the Mufumbiro Mountains – Virunga Volcanoes.
