Hotel Muhabura is a legendary property located in the centre of Ruhergeri town (now Musanze). The hotel is an ideal place to set camp while on a Safari to see the mountain gorillas of Rwanda’s volcanoes National Park only 13.5km/ 8 miles hardly 20 minutes drive from the Muhabura Hotel.
The Muhabura Hotel offers a variety of rooms but most notable to us is Room 12 where Diane Fossey the legendary primatologist who devoted her entire life to studying and living with mountain gorillas often took off a couple of days and stayed at this very hotel. This room has still been kept intact and still has some of the old-times furniture including fixtures on the walls. This room enjoyed uninterrupted views of the volcanoes then – we like to think its why she choose it but unfortunately this is no more the case as they have been new rooms built that have obstructed the views from the Dian Fossey room
