Nkuringo Gorilla Trekking Region is one of the best places to go for gorilla trekking in Uganda. Flying is the best/quickest way to get from Entebbe to the Nkuringo region. Flying to the Nkuringo region from Entebbe takes only 1hour & 30 minutes. Flying is even the cheapest way to get to the Nkuringo region for gorilla trekking.
Travelers visiting the Nkuringo Region for gorilla trekking or any other adventure activities have up to three (03) ways of getting to the region;
- Drive from Entebbe to Nkuringo region – takes 9-10hours.
- Fly from Entebbe to the Kisoro takes 1hour & 30 minutes. The road transfer from Kisoro Airport to the Nkuringo region takes around the same time (1hr30min).
- Using a helicopter (very costly), you will fly and land at a spot hardly 10minutes away from your lodge in the Nkuringo region (most convenient). The helicopter flight from Entebbe to Nkuringo might last about 1 hour but man you have gotta pay the price – this is costly!
Being the reality freaks that we are, we will honestly mention it’s not necessary (unless otherwise) for you to spend all your life savings on a helicopter flight to Bwindi when you could simply get there on a regular scheduled domestic flight with either Aerolink or Fly Uganda – these fly to Bwindi on a daily for about $5oo per person return.
Flying to Nkuringo Region on a regular domestic flight
From Entebbe, you may opt to either fly with Aerolink (preferred) or fly Uganda – there only two of them operating scheduled & chartered domestic flights to Nkuringo (Bwindi). The flights typically leave Entebbe international Airport (Aerolink) or Kajjansi Airfield (Fly Uganda) at about 7:30 am. Check-in times may vary but typically are 1 hour earlier – 6:30 am.
You’ll fly to Kisoro Airport where you will meet a representative of the company with which you booked your Nkuringo gorilla tour. who will greet and assist you with your luggage (pack it all in a soft-sided duffel bag buy one on Amazon.com).
You will then embark on a scenic drive to the Nkuringo region a journey that will take about 1hr30minutes before you can arrive at your preferred Gorilla safari lodge.
What next? What to expect when in Nkuringo Region
You will then have the entire day to yourself and you may opt to rest and enjoy the surrounding of your lodge, take a leisurely walk to the community (we recommend taking a local guide from the lodge) or simply stay back and unpack for your next day’s gorilla trekking experience.
Traveler tip: Make sure not to use up your energy but rather spare it for the next day’s gorilla trek. The Terrain in Nkuringo is steep and can get very challenging to trek in the rainy season months of March, April, May, and November.
