The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre – UWEC popularly known as the Entebbe Zoo offers a variety of things to film onsite among which wildlife Filming & photography tops the list. At this centre, you may film chimpanzees, Lions, leopards, rhino, hyena, giraffe and or film the rare and elusive shoebill stork.  Filming at the Entebbe Zoo

All filming crew intending to film at the Entebbe Zoo require permits & permission from the management of the Entebbe Zoo. What is there to film at the Entebbe Zoo (UWEC)?


  • Lion Filming at UWEC

The Entebbe Zoo (UWEC) is home to a total of nine (09) lions including the two cubs born by the 7-year-old lioness named Mutagamba; after Maria Mutagamba the former minister of tourism for Uganda.

Mutagamba was born in 2012 to the late Kibonge – who passed on at the age of 18 years and is considered the oldest lion to have lived at the Entebbe Zoo.

  • Leopard Filming at UWEC

Currently, the centre is home to roundabout 300 animals including one (01) leopard which is available filming upon application for all relevant Filming permits and permissions which Realm Africa Safaris™ can assist you secure.

  • Rhino Filming in UWEC

The Entebbe Zoo provides safety to two (02) Southern White Rhinos which were translocated from neighbouring Kenya. These two Rhinos at UWEC in Entebbe are for conservation education purposes. Filming at UWEC is very cost-effective.

Best time to Film at the Entebbe Zoo (UWEC) Filming at the Entebbe Zoo


Generally speaking, the best time to film in Uganda depends on what you intend to film. For instance, individuals or film crew intending to capture the captivating shoebill breeding experience, ought to plan to film in the dry season months of June-August, and January to February.

Requirements for Filming at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre


All Crew members intending to indulge in shoebill Filming at UWEC have got to individually apply for a media Card or Press Accreditation as commonly referred to In Uganda. Press Accreditation in Uganda is issued by the Uganda Media Council

after each individual or crew member fills out FORM G. This form must be accompanied with copies of scanned passport (bios Page) and a recent passport-sized photo to be used in processing your Media card (Press accreditation).

It does take us approximately 02 – 03 working days from the time we receive all the above-mentioned documents to process your media card.

To accompany all the individually filled out FORM G’S for each crew member, the team leader has got to send us a detailed write-up or synopsis of the film you intend to shoot in Uganda.

After all the above is sent through, our Uganda film Crew Fixer Services team leader will then proceed to submit these to the Uganda Media Council for approval. Upon approval, we will then contact and inform you of this achievement.

After securing your Media cards, we will then need to advise and also further assist you in securing all the other necessary permits and permissions all guided by your film Scriptwriter or the Synopsis


Press Accreditation fees in Uganda (Payable to Uganda Media Council)


  1. a fee of US$175 per person is paid for a period not exceeding 30 days of the journalist’s stay.
  2. a fee of US$225 per person is paid for a period beyond 30 days up to six months of stay.
  3. a fee of US$325 per person is paid for a period of two years.

** The fees mentioned above are set and can be amended by the Uganda Media Council without any prior consultation. we, therefore, remind you to treat these as a guide.


Permission to Film at UWEC Filming at the Entebbe Zoo


After successfully securing press accreditation for each crew member on your team, the next step is to seek permission from the local authorities overseeing the protection of UWEC.

As for UWEC, the director and founder of Realm Africa Safaris™ worked at this facility as a volunteer and has maintained the connection with the management here. This makes it equally an easy process for us to secure all relevant Permissions to Film onsite.
