Obtaining a filming permit and other permission(s)
For anyone intending to Film in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya & Tanzania, a filming permit is the first document you will need. The Process of applying and obtaining a Filming permit is somewhat similar across all four (04) destinations that we offer our Film Crew Fixing Services. Most important is the introduction of your self, the Filming Company you work with, briefly explain the film you intend to shoot, the location where the film will be shot and the duration of the film shoot, and don’t forget to mention how this film will benefit the destination. All your film Crew members will need to be accredited so please send forth a Detailed list of all Crew members on the team; Mention their Names (add a photo), their role on the team (e.g Todd Fletcher, Producer) it these details that will be imprinted on their media accreditation card (where applicable). Filming equipment & kit clearance
For all our Film Crew and individual filmmakers, we advise that upon acquiring all your filming permits & permissions, you send us a detailed list of all Filming Equipment & Kit you intend to bring with you. In the list, Mention the item, its manufacturer/make, Serial Number and the monetary Value in USD – this is then used by the respective Tax Revenue body (Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya or Tanzania) to assess and send us a quote which we will in turn forward to you for payment.
An agent of ours will meet you both on arrival and departure to assist with all your Filming equipment & kit clearing.
Importing a drone for filming
Filming using a drone requires high clearance from the Ministry of Defence & Security of the respective country you intend to use the drone – the process of acquiring all relevant permits & Permissions to import a drone can be long and daunting. The good news is that Realm Africa Safaris™ if contacted in advance (NO Lastminute Jobs accepted) can help you all through the tedious process of getting approval to temporarily import your drone into Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya & Tanzania.
Similar to an application for Filming permits & permissions, you will be required to write to the respective Ministry (e.g if filming for tourism, the respective ministry here would be the Ministry of Tourism) in the respective country informing them about your intentions to import a Drone for your earlier introduced filming project. Provide details of the drone, Manufacturer, and monetary value in USD, and also explain the film project and mention the locations(s) in which you intend to film using the drone. The Ministry will then forward your letter to the Ministry of Defence & Security who will then authorize the Civil Aviation Authority of the respective country to permit the temporary importation of your drone for the mentioned period.
The right to permit or deny the importation of a drone is at the discretion of the Government Authorities NOT Realm Africa Safaris™.
All Film Crews intending to Film using drones (after seeking permission from relevant authorities) must bring a certified Drone pilot (proof of Certification may be required) who will be in charge of flying the said drone(s) subject to the Drone Rules & Regulations of the respective country.
