Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary located within the Mkomazi National Park is the first and only rhino sanctuary in Tanzania. Currently, the Sanctuary is home to thirteen black rhinos that are intensively protected by a team of dedicated anti-poaching patrols. Rhinos are protected within the fenced 55-square kilometre sanctuary, inside the 3,245-square kilometre Mkomazi National Park Park. Tourists can see them more easily than in the wild plains, Mkomazi National Park.

Best time to visit Makomazi Rhino Sanctuary

Late June to October is the prime time for watching wildlife in Mkomazi National Park. This is the Dry season; vegetation is thinner and animals gather near water. However, elephants and some other herbivores migrate to the park from neighbouring Tsavo National Park during the Wet season months from November to May. The general scenery and mountain views are better at this time as well.
