How long is a Gorilla Trekking Safari?

Most of the travellers intending to go gorilla trekking often want to know how long a gorilla trekking Safari takes. In today’s article, we will explain in detail what Gorilla trekking entails – How long the entire gorilla trekking safari takes from Entebbe/Kampala, how long the actual trek in search of mountain gorillas takes. How long is a Gorilla Trekking Safari?

A traditional Gorilla Trekking Safari takes at least three (03) Days. The three (03) Days are split as follows:

Day 01: Transfer to your preferred Gorilla Trekking destination ( we only outfit Gorilla Tours in Rwanda and Uganda – Not DR Congo – See: Why Gorilla Trekking In Congo is considered unsafe.

Day 02: Today is your gorilla trekking day.

Day 03: Transfer back to the airport for onward travel – Marks the End of your Gorilla Safari.

How long does Gorilla trekking in the Forest take?

Gorilla trekking lasts between 45-minutes to 08-hours – but we prefer to prepare you for a full day trekking experience. This is because gorilla trekking is very unpredictable and is largely dependent on how far away the gorillas have moved. Gorilla movement is often affected by how well the members socialise and availability of food. If families are fighting, this might cause them to move far Longer distances which might make your gorilla trek last longer than the anticipated 8-hours. Secondly, the availability of food might cause them to stay close while scarcity will cause them to go searching deeper in the forest for food – which means the trek becomes longer.

The best time to trek mountain gorillas is in the dry season months when the trails are relatively drier compared to the wet season when the trails become extremely slippery and quite challenging to navigate.

For our special needs – unfit – old – senior travellers with mobility challenges and can not trek long-distances,  Realm Africa Safaris™ can tailor you a special needs gorilla trekking Safari can that meets your specific fitness needs. This may include advising you to fork-out at least an EXTRA $350 ( not fixed & can change from time to time) – payable to the local porters who carry you on a sedan chair to see and photograph the Mountain Gorillas.
