Accommodation in Ruhija Sector ranges from budget to mid-range. There is no luxury property in Ruhija. Ruhija Region is one of the four (04) Gorilla trekking Points in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – home to over half of the worlds Gorilla Population. Ruhija lies in the east of Bwindi with an altitude of up to 2,350m (1000m higher than Buhoma). That means a much cooler climate and montane forest; even bamboo and heather can be found nearby. This area continuously receives birders interested in the restricted range species of Bwindi that are mostly found in this, higher altitude section of Bwindi – examples of the birds include but are not limited to; stulhmann’s Starling, and African Broadbill. Ruhija for this reason has become our favorite Bwindi destination for travelers that want to combine the Gorillas plus birds – rare birds not sighted anywhere else except in the Ruhija sector. Ruhija’s lodge collection is designed to cater to only two (02) categories; budget and mid-range. Upmarket clients should consider staying in the Buhoma sector – a 1-hour drive to Ruhija – Buhoma Sector is a region more established with gorilla trekking – the lodges in this region cater to the more upmarket clients.
