Peak Season

Peak season also known as high season, or more often the summer travel season for people in Europe, is the most popular time to travel to East Africa. The peak season covers the months of mid-June through to August. The accepted high season travel months are June, July, and August.

The peak season offers arguably the best weather (dry with very little or completely no rain), but also higher travel prices, and the larger groups tours – all more noticeable in peak travel season. The weather around these months is ideal, there is a very slight chance of rain with the days warm and the evenings slightly cooler.

Peak season is between June and August. keep in mind that this is also the busiest and most expensive so book early to avoid any disappointments regarding availabilities.

Traveling during peak season usually means you have to plan ahead because buses, trains, tours, and even popular restaurants can be fully booked. Additionally, tickets and permits including gorilla trekking permits, chimpanzee and golden tracking permits are soldout months in advance, and tours can be fully booked.

The crowds may be unavoidable during the peak season, but there are ways to escape them; stay at an Upmarket accommodation, travel with top notch companies Like Realm Africa Safaris™.

Tips for travelling during the busy holiday season

While travel is what we know and call business, we are not here to run your back account(s) dry. This is why we bring you 4 important tips of Planning your travel in the peak season.

  • Stock up on holiday essentials a year inadvance.

Holiday essentials like specialty gear like what to wear for gorilla trekking, sunglasses, a hat, travel bags, sun cream, repellent, etc all add up but instead of waiting until the new season stuff comes into shops, why not stock up in the sales the year before?

This one requires a fair bit of planning, but if you can take advantage of the special sales then you’ll be saving yourself some cash in the long run. And don’t worry about beauty products going off. Most sun creams last for two years when stored properly.

I always buy my ski gear in the spring (usually because I’m so excited!) and September is a great time of year to be looking out for bargain beach wear.

  • Book everything well in advance

Doesnt matter if your are DIY travellers that like to plan and book Their own travels or you intend to use a tour operator or travel agency, book your hotel(s), transfer(s), tours(s) and activities well in advance to avoid; (1) Lastminute booking disappointment(s) but rather get the best deals. Flights and accommodation can even be double the price during peak seasons.

Top Tip: If you choose a self drive holiday you’ll be completely in control of your expenses. Avoid any hidden nasties that airlines can throw into the mix, such as extra fees for seating assignments, luggage and even fines for not checking in online.  Self Drive however has its downside (see: why we discourage selfdrive).

  • Stay at great value budget lodgings

If staying in a big chain hotel isn’t your thing, then you could save even more by choosing to stay a ragne of great value backpacker lodges, homestays, and little guesthouses. Speak to your tour Operator and they will best advise you on available offers.

  • Pre book tours and buy tickets in advance

Pre-booking your tour or holiday will save you the last minute rush characterised by limited options , and sometimes not option at all. Buying you airline tickect well in advance gives you the peace of mind and also helps you decide on where you want to sit unlike if you booked lastminute which allows you to only take what is avaliable.
