Best time to visit Pian Upe game Reserve

The Best time to visit Pian Upe Game Reserve is largely dependent on the prevailing weather conditions In Pian Upe.

Although the weather in the Karamajong region still remains very unpredictable, months of April into October are still largely considered the rainy months and hence not the best time to visit Pian Upe as the roads connecting Pian become very impassable.

In summary:

Best time to visit Pian Upe Game Reserve

  • January – March: This is the best time to visit Pian Upe Game Reserve – the vegetation is dry, and you will have clear views of animals gathering at water points which makes it easy for game viewing.
  • April – October: This is the long rainy season, therefore the roads and game drive tracks get muddy, and or even impassable. The Game drive tracks are not well developed so, in the wet season, it can be a bit challenging to navigate these tracks, coupled with bad foggy views – Not ideal for photography.
  • November – December: This is the dry season and being that it’s after the long rains of April & October,  vegetation is still overgrown therefore makes it difficult to spot animals hidden in the grass and treetops

Our recommendation is that you plan to spend at least a two days in Pian Upe Game Reserve exploring this reserve. An early morning start of game drives is better since rain showers tend to show up in the afternoons.
