Akagera Game Lodge is located in Akagera national park in eastern Rwanda.
Presently the only accommodation in this pleasant but little-visited reserve, this tired old lodge is long overdue a facelift.
Situated close to the main southern entrance gate on the road in from Kigali, the hillside setting does provide decent views out over rolling hills which run down towards the central lakes.
Public areas are rather urban and concrete in style, but functional enough. Remarkably, given the amount of traffic into the area, the lodge has 72 standard rooms, arranged in three two-storey billets. The two circular cottages beyond the pool are potentially much nicer, but need a major decorative overhaul.
Akagera Game Lodge is really not much to write home about, but it is a reasonably reliable operation which can serve well enough for a night or two whilst visiting this hopefully upcoming wildlife area – Akagera National Park.
