Detailed itinerary (Day by Day ) of your 09 Days Gorillas and Big five Safari

DAY 01: Arrival into Tanzania

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by your driver-guide and transferred to accommodation in Arusha.

Drive time(s): Kilimanjaro International Airport to Mount Meru Game Lodge & Sanctuary= 30 minutes.

Accommodation: Mount Meru Game Lodge.  Meal Plan: Breakfast (B).

DAY 02: Fly to Seronera

Breakfast at your Lodge – remember to try the in-house coffee – if you are a coffee person. Thereafter, your guide will transfer you to the airport for your private or scheduled flight to the Seronera area of Serengeti. On arrival, you will be met by a Realm Africa Safaris™ representative who will transfer you to your lodge for check-in. In the afternoon, you can join your guide for a sunset safari through the Serengeti plains. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 03: Explore the Serengeti.

This morning you may venture into a morning safari in the park. The mornings are spectacular for both landscape and animal photography. The wildlife is very active and most of the likely action happens in the cooler morning hours. Return to the lodge for lunch and a siesta. In the evening, you may opt to relax and watch the sunset from the lodge or add more game viewing to it by going for an evening safari returning to base before sunset.

DAY 04: Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater

Breakfast at Serengeti Pioneer Camp; thereafter checkout with all your belongings and embark on a scenic drive to the Ngorongoro crater for yet another mind-blowing wildlife experience. Lunch at the Manor  House overlooking Ngorongoro Crater famed as being the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’, and is a ‘must-see’.

This afternoon you have an optional game viewing safari into the crater. Alternatively, you may decide to relax and unwind to the scenery. Dinner & Overnight at The Manor House.

DAY 05: Explore the Crater

You will have the entire day set aside as exploration time. There is quite a couple of other things to see/do in & around the crater. We will let you pace your day today – of course with the guidance of our guide who will be travelling with you. 

Depending on the activity you choose to do, you have the options of taking a packed lunch or returning to have your lunch at the Lodge. Dinner and overnight at the Manor House.

DAY 06: Fly to Kigali

Breakfast; checkout with all your belongings and your guide will transfer you to Manyara Airstrip for your scheduled/private flight to Kigali. On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by a representative of Realm Africa Safaris™ who will transfer you to the Retreat Boutique Hotel in Kigali. Dinner and overnight at the Retreat.

DAY o7: Kigali City Tour, Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Breakfast at the Retreat, thereafter together with your belongings, your driver-guide will accompany you to the Gisozi genocide museum – a memorial site for the tragic 1994 massacre that occurred in Rwanda. While a visit to the memorial site is worthwhile, it is not for the faint-hearted.

After your tour of the genocide memorial, you will proceed to Musanze – arriving your lodge in time for check-in and lunch, dinner & Overnight at Virunga Lodge – Overlooking Twin Lakes of Burera & Ruhondo.

Drive Time(s): Kigali Int. Airport to Kigali City = 1hour.  | Kigali City to Virunga Lodge = 3 ½ hours.

DAY 08: Trek Gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park

In the morning transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing. Guests are accordingly allocated their specific gorilla groups for tracking with due consideration to one’s physical abilities – speak to us about any physical abilities and or inabilities and we will keep your driver-guide in the know.

At 8:00 am Rwandan local time, all tourists will transfer to various starting points for gorilla trekking. Normally, the gorilla trekking experience lasts between 01 – 06 hours trekking through lush vegetation, up and down mountains. Upon sighting the mountain gorillas, you will be allowed up to 01-hours viewing and photograph the mountain gorillas of Rwanda – Volcanoes National Park. After the 01 Hour elapses, your ranger guide will then lead your back to where your Realm Africa Safaris – Vehicle – driver-guide will be waiting to transfer you back to your lodge.

Drive Time(s): Virunga Lodge to Volcanoes National park = 45 minutes.

DAY 09: Transfer to the Airport for onward travel.

Breakfast; thereafter transfer from your Lodge in Kinigi to Kigali – Rwanda’s Capital. While in Kigali (time permitting), your tour guide will take you around the city – visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site and the local handicrafts market, before proceeding to the airport for your departure flight back home – marks the end of your 09 Days Gorillas and Big five Safari.

Drive Time(s): Virunga Lodge to Kigali City = 3 ½ hours.

Accommodation: Not included. | Meals Included: Breakfast & lunch (BL).
