Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary - Zziwa Sanctuary - rhino Tracking in Uganda

Rhino Tracking In Uganda

Rhino tracking In Uganda can only be done at Zziwa Rhino sanctuary. The sanctuary is approximately 169km (±3-hours) drive from Kampala on the Kampala Gulu highway.

Established in the year 2005, Zziwa Sanctuary is home to the only Rhinos in Uganda ( except for the other two at the Entebbe zoo). The type of rhinos kept on the sanctuary is the southern white rhinos. With now 31 Rhinos resident at the sanctuary, a visit to this place has become a favourite for most tourists on Safari to Murchison falls National or even the far-flung Kidepo Valley National park.

BEST TIME TO VISIT ZZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY

Tracking Rhinos at Zziwa Sanctuary can be done all-year-round but the times are in the dry season months of June to August and December to February. The rainy season is in the months of March to November and the sanctuary grounds get extremely soggy and challenging to navigate as you track the Rhinos. Although boots (wellies) are provided by the sanctuary in the rainy season, the ground is slippery and therefore due precautions have to be practised while walking these trails.

WHERE TO STAY ON YOUR RHINO TRACKING IN UGANDA

There are only two (02) accommodation options at the sanctuary. These include the low budget Zziwa guesthouse and the upmarket Amuka Lodge
