Rhino Filming in Uganda

Uganda boasted of having both the Black and White rhino species – the Eastern Black in the North and Northwest, and the Northern White in the Northwest on the west bank of the River Nile. Unfortunately during the years of civil unrest 1979 – 1986, poaching was the order of the day, and this claimed most of the rhinos to extinction in Uganda with the last Northern white Rhino having been sighted in 1982 in Murchison Falls National Park and the last eastern Black rhino being sighted in 1983 in Kidepo Valley National Park. This means Uganda’s Rhinos are extinct.  However, in 2002 Rhino fund Uganda in close partnership with the Uganda Wildlife Authority did start up a re-introduction project dating back as early as 1998.  rhino filming in Uganda

In 2002, the first two white Rhinos were successfully translocated from Kenya to the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre in Entebbe where they still live to date. Another couple of Rhinos did later arrive from Solio Ranch in Kenya, Disney animal kingdom in the USA and these were taken to Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary – the best place to track, see, photograph and film Rhinos in the wild.

For media companies looking to film Rhinos in Uganda, there only two locations; Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola or at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre in Entebbe – commonly known as the Entebbe Z00
