What is the price of a gorilla Permit? Mountain gorilla permit prices vary depending on where you choose to go for Gorilla Trekking. While there are three (03) places in Africa where you can go gorilla trekking; Uganda, Rwanda & DR Congo, only two (02) of these are considered safe places to see mountain gorillas in the wild; Uganda & Rwanda

What is the price of a gorilla tracking Permit?


In Uganda, Gorilla permits cost $700 for foreign non-residents, $600 per person for Foreign residents, and Ugx 250,000 per person for East African Citizens including those living or working in the diaspora.

Besides the traditional one-hour mountain gorilla trekking experience, travellers visiting Uganda can opt to instead spend four (04) hours in the presence of a wild mountain gorilla group in company with a team of researchers & game rangers. Mountain  Gorilla habituation permits cost $1,500 per person and only 04 tourists are allowed to join a group of researchers & rangers visiting a specific family that is still undergoing habituation.

Proof of residence or citizenship will be required at the time of purchasing the permits from Uganda Wildlife Authority – UWA.

Mountain gorilla permits in Rwanda cost $1,500per person for all individuals intending to visit and spend the most valuable hour in the presence of a group of habituated mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National park.


When is the best time to book a Gorilla Permit?


We like to recommend pre-booking your gorilla permits at least six (06) months in advance to ensure that you do not miss out on the actual dates of interest especially for travelers that want to do it on their birthday, anniversary, or any other dates that are special for them.

Which is the best way to book a Gorilla Permit? Through an Agent or DIY?


While it is possible to directly book your gorilla permit with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) or Rwanda Development Board(RDB), it is recommended that you use a local gorilla tour operator like Realm Africa Safaris™ to assist with booking your Gorilla Permit. The back and forth communication with relevant Gorilla permit authorities in the country of your choice (Uganda or Rwanda) can be a daunting experience, especially for first-timers. If Booking a gorilla tour with us, we don’t charge any Gorilla Permit processing fees to secure your permit unlike if you book your tour with another operator and ask us to book a gorilla permit for you – we charge $50 – $100 as Gorilla permit processing fees
