THE PLANNING PROCESS:

Planning & booking your Special Needs Gorilla Safari with Realm Africa Safari™?

It’s important that at the time of booking your gorilla trekking Safari with us, that you make known to us that; you are physically challenged or differently-abled, or elderly, and would like to, therefore book a special needs gorilla trekking for differently-abled Persons. Your tour consultant will then add your tour to our special needs category and proceed with a couple of questions regarding your special needs for the safari. We often don’t through this process but rather take time to carefully understand your special needs to ensure that nothing gets left out at the planning stage.

Booking a gorilla trekking permit for Our special needs clients.

The procedure of booking a gorilla trekking permit for a Special needs gorilla trekking for differently-abled persons is similar for both in Uganda and Rwanda (only prices do differ; Uganda gorilla permits cost USD600 per person and are subject to increase to USD700 effective 01st/July/2020, Rwanda gorilla trekking permits cost USD1,500 per person). Having communicated to us your intentions of booking a Special needs gorilla trekking Safari, your consultant while booking and paying for gorilla trekking permits, will inquire about the price of hiring a sedan chair, and local porters (prices are not fixed and may change anytime). We will immediately email you and inform you about the sedan chair hire costs which we advise you instantly pay-up so that we can guarantee the availability of both the chair and a team of local porters to assist in getting you to the gorillas.

How this all works:

If you suffer mobility challenges, Realm Africa Safaris™ will arrange for a team of local porters to assist carry you up into the forest to meet up with the mountain gorillas you have longed to see. Typically the team of porters often compromises of up to 12 strong men & women who carry you on a sedan chair. They are often in touch with the advance team of gorilla trackers that goes into the forest on the daily to track and find the gorillas. The advance team of trackers will then advise the local porters on the best and or shortest route to take to get to the gorillas. The Porters will safely ferry you up and then down the mountains right to where the gorillas are. You will view and photograph the gorillas for 01-hour, and thereafter they will return you to the start point where you will be reunited with your driver-guide from Realm Africa Safaris – Bingo! you have done your gorilla trek.

Where will I stay?

Since this a “special needs safari” (words we use to categorise our trips), your tour consultant will work closely with you to ascertain your level of abilities. This will then help us book you into a hotel or lodge that caters to your different abilities. There are not very many special needs lodges in either Rwanda or Uganda, so we recommend that you book your Special needs gorilla trekking safari for persons with disabilities at least 06 months in advance to allow for your consultant to recommend and book the right hotel for you.

Special Note:

Realm Africa Safaris has the capacity to arrange special transportation (both Air & road) in the event that our client is severely differently-abled or immobile and has got to for example keep in the wheelchair.
