Boomu Womens Group Experience – Murchison Fall …

Boomu Womens Group – overnight stay in African Bandas – Village walk – Handicrafts Experience – Local Fresh Food – Stories and tale of Africa Experience African “Togetherness”.

Boomu Womens Group (there are actually some men belonging to this group….. 🙂 Amazing!!) at Kigaragara Village near Murchison Falls National Park  Entry at Kichumbanyobo Gate and Budongo Forest allowing visitors to Uganda to experience the life of an African Village – living with the Kigaragara village people – with out electricty, running water. Marvel at the star lite skys in the break of dusk.

Boomu means “togetherness”  and by the time you leave here you will have more understanding that it does “take a village working together” to survive and thrive in Africa.

While at Boomu you will visit the community, take part gathering and preparing the food you will be eating – foods are locally farmed meaning everything is fresh and there is no refrigeration. It is from the garden to the stove and to your plate and you are involved in the process from beginning to end. On a side note – normally villagers in Uganda eat with their hands, you wash your hands before and after but at Boomu you are offered the optional fork – try it the African way – Experience Africa…. 🙂

Your stay at Boomu is in thatched African Bandas – round grass thatched huts on  well-maintained grounds.  Your Banda is surrounded by trees, including fruit trees, plants, shrubs and flowers in bloom attracting lots of butterflies and tropical birds creating a peaceful and relaxing setting as you sit there and see a colony of Weaver Birds in a tree near you.

Showers are open air ones and hot water can be supplied to you in a jerry can – a bit different but think of this way – most do not use hot water when they shower but cold water.  The toilet is Eco-friendly and and the composting kind.

Most meals are traditional Ugandan foods – even though you might have cooked be sure to thank the host – simply say “Thank you for cooking.”  If you do want a more Western Meal it can be prepared for you and Vegetarians and Vegans can be readily accommodated.

If your desire has been to experience Africa, there is areal authentically African Banda specifically created as a model traditional mud hut and you can stay there just for the experience.  While at the Village, a campfire is set up every night – its at this campfire that  parents told their kids stories of old times since African History – these Traditions were never written down, but they were woven into stories that were handed down from generation to generation.

While on an organised locally guided ( by a Boomu local Guide) you will have the chance to understand the obstacles and difficulties that villagers face because of the lack of education, the lack of infrastructure such as electricity or running water, the population growth and its impact on land and pressure for more food ( average Ugandan woman gives birth to 6 – 7 children in her life). Learn by observing the rudimentary traditional farming methods and how those crops are processed.

Boomu Womens group also creates some fine bed spreads and other hand woven products, dyed with colors collected from nature around the village, you can see some beautiful basket weaving done and buy a few items that will keep the memories coming of your stay at  Boomu Women’s group which taught you what it means to be and work “together.”

Visit Boomu Womens group and experience an African Village in Uganda – whether the Village Stay or Village Walk are an off-the-beaten track and are not a touristic kind experience of  day-to-day life in rural Uganda.
