Ngorongoro Crater …

Ngorongoro CraterNgorongoro Crater is known as the “Garden of Eden”, it’s a place of contrasts and beauty and is the best self contained safari destination in the world.

The Ngorongoro Crater contains permanent water (a rarity in Africa), and it’s rich grasslands support a large population of wildlife, arguably the most densely populated wildlife area in Africa. A Tanzania Safari including a safari in the Ngorongoro Crater is highly recommended as the Ngorongoro Crater is such a unique safari destination. With a large concentration of animals and short grasslands, game viewing in the crater is excellent as the animals are everywhere!

Ngorongoro Crater is located near the Southern Serengeti. The crater (610 metres deep and 260 km squared) is a microcosm of East African scenery, forests and thick bush cover the crater rim, as one descends further down into the crater the forest suddenly comes to an end and the scenery of trees and then vast open plains and lake Magadi far in the background is simply breathtaking.

Unbelievable wildlife viewing undertaken in the most picturesque of settings, are the hallmark of this wonder of the world. The Crater also has a vast array of wildlife with big herds of Wildebeest and Zebra along with Rhino, Buffalo, Elephant, Warthog, Hyena, Eland as well as plenty of plains game and all the big cats, Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. There are also lots of colorful flamingo’s and a variety of other water birds around the soda lake on the crater floor.

The Male Lions in Ngorongoro Crater are a photographers dream with massive black manes and huge powerful bodies. With such a high concentration of predators in such a small space it is not uncommon to see Cheetah hunting Gazelles, Lion and Buffalo interaction as well as Lion and hyena scrapping over a kill.
