In Uganda, the official Mountain Gorilla Filming Permit is charged at 40% of the Gorilla permit fee $700 which comes to $280. Add a 10% monitoring fee charge of the gorilla permit fee ($700) which is $70. Total filming fees payable to UWA is $280 + $70 = $350 per day add $700 per person = $1,050 per person per day to film Gorillas in Uganda. Both the mountain Gorilla Filming Permit Fees $350) and gorilla trekking Permit fees ($700) are payable to Uganda Wildlife Authority (the body mandated to oversee all Uganda’s National Parks & Reserves). There could be some additional fees as will be determined by UWA.

However, acquiring a Mountain Gorilla Filming Permit can only be done after acquiring Press Accreditation – a Permit that allows foreign Journalists, Production / Media Companies to carry out any sort of Filming in Uganda.

Press Accreditation in Uganda is done by the Uganda Media Council after each Film crew member fills in the mandatory FORM G which Realm Africa Film Fixers™ forward to the Uganda Media Council offices in Kampala for scrutiny and hopefully approval. While the process of applying for a Uganda Filming Permit (Press Accreditation/media card) can be done online and directly by contacting the Uganda Media Council, we recommend using a local Film Fixer to avoid any uncertainties, and or any delays In the process of securing your media cards. Press Accreditation fees in Uganda (Payable to Uganda Media Council)


  1. a fee of US$175 per person is paid for a period not exceeding 30 days of the journalist’s stay.
  2. a fee of US$225 per person is paid for a period beyond 30 days up to six months of stay.
  3. a fee of US$325 per person is paid for a period of two years.

** The fees mentioned above are set and can be amended by the Uganda Media Council without any prior consultation. we, therefore, remind you to treat these as a guide.

Similar to Uganda, the Crew has got to apply for a Rwanda Filming Permit from Ministry of Sports and Culture after which you can now proceed to apply for a Rwanda Gorilla Filming Permit.

A Rwanda Gorilla Filming Permit costs USD5,000 (Per Group), plus a security deposit of USD2,000 (Refundable to you if you give two (02) copies of the film to Rwanda Development Board), Plus the cost of a Rwanda Gorilla trekking Permit – USD1,500 per person per Day to Filming Mountain Gorillas In Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.


Which is the Best Place to film Mountain gorillas  Rwanda or Uganda?


Both Uganda & Rwanda are good locations to film mountain gorillas in the Wild however, Filming In Uganda might cost a lot less than if you opt to film gorillas in Rwanda.


Best time to film mountain gorillas in Uganda or Rwanda


Although mountain gorilla filming can be done all year round, the best time to film gorillas would be in the drier season months of June – August or December – February. Notably, the months; of April, May & November experience the most rains which makes the trails slippery and very challenging to navigate with filming gear.
