Engagi Lodge is an upmarket safari lodge located at the edge of the popular Bwindi gorilla forest Park. The lodge has eight (08) cottages each furnished with a double or twin beds, private bath, and a deck overlooking the Bwindi forest.
The word ” Engagi” Means “gorilla” in the local Rukiga language.
Engagi Lodge overlooking the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the Buhoma Sector is built with both local materials, and local labour from the locals who live around Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The lodge is a comfortable, affordable up-market lodge with a distinct class and style at the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the Buhoma area of the National park.
Made of locally grown Eucalyptus poles, and a roof hand-woven out of banana fibres the main lodge area is open-air-space that fords great views of the forest. The rocks used in building the lodge come from the local area and together with the other natural product they bring the feel of natural harmony to the lodge and to the cottages that make up Engagi Lodge.
Electricity is solar-powered backed up by a generator. The hot water for showering is prepared in wood-fired boilers for your comfort – something common in safari lodges all over East Africa.
The food is prepared by well-trained local chefs who will treat you to 3-course lunches and dinners. The breakfast is delightful, and the packed lunches (for your gorilla trek) are great. Special Dietary needs can easily be met here by the excellent kitchen staff.
There are private walks around the property, such as the walk down to the river that you can take for your enjoyment which only enhances your time here at Engagi lodge.
