East Africa Passport Validity Rule

East Africa Passport Validity Rule

East Africa Passport Validity Rule – Six (06) month Validity required for entry into Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya & Tanzania.

We imagine you already know that when you travel to any foreign country you need to have a valid passport to enter the region and to get back to your home Country. However, what many people don’t know is that Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya & Tanzania enforce a six (06) month Passport Validity rule.

If  the country you are travelling to enforces the Six (06) month Passport Validity Rule, then this means in simple terms that your passport’s expiration date must be at least six (06) months from the day that you plan to enter the said country.

In other words, if you are planning to fly into Uganda on June 1st, your passport can’t expire before December 1st, even if you plan to leave the country well before the month ends. Different countries have different reasons for enforcing the six month passport validity rule, but the primary reason for most is that it helps prevent travelers from entering a country with a soon-to-expire passport, then running into trouble when their trip is extended or runs longer than planned.

It is therefore important that all travelers whether travelling with Realm Africa Safaris or any other Tour operator but travelling to any one or all; Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya & Tanzania – ensure their passport validity to avoid conflicting with the  six month passport validity rule – something that could mess up your East African Safari travel to trek mountain Gorilla or hike to the top of Mountain Kilimanjaro an activity you will have already prepaid your ground handler.

It is important to keep in mind that East African Countries; Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya & Tanzania require you to obtain a travel visa as well as have a valid passport before entering the country. If your passport is going to expire within six months of traveling to any of the aforementioned countries – something that conflicts with the Six month passport validity rule, don’t take any chances….We recommend you consider applying for a passport renewal prior to departing your home country, and also apply for the newly introduced 90 Days Multiple entry East African tourist Visa – it costs just US$100.
