However, there have been several terrorist threats and attacks in the past. Unfortunately, terrorism has become a global concern and for this reason every government is doing its best to safeguard against it and so is Uganda.
As with most or all third-world countries, petty theft and or pick-pocketing are relatively common, but most incidents are in cities, Kampala in particular. Indilging in un-guided walks alone around the city is not recommended especially in the big cities like Kampala.
An overnight stay at a reputable hotel in Uganda or an organized visit to one of the many attractions in or around the city is fairly risk-free.
Safety and security in Uganda for tourists ahs been beefed- up with the introduction of a new police force – Uganda Tourism Police that handles tourist related cases whilst also providing protection at tourist sites, hotels, lodges and even on your gorill trekking safari – they are there.
